The xenopronoun flag

Xenopronouns are a type of neopronouns that are described as not being able to be understood by humans and/or expressed through human language. Theoretical examples of xenopronouns include;

  • Pronouns that involve concepts that humans do not have words for.
  • Pronouns whose meanings cannot be translated into any human language (hypothetical in mind).
  • Pronouns expressed through a form of communication that humans cannot understand due to it being extraterrestrial.

No specific examples of xenopronouns can be provided because, by their nature, it would be impossible to express through human language. For those that do use xenopronouns, for communication in human language they may use auxiliary (alternate) pronouns or wish to be treated as nullpronominal.

One exception to this is Meow/purr, which is meant to refer to those who are or identify as felinesque. It can be written in English, however, to speak it, one would need to audibly mimic the sounds of a cat. Furthermore, the cases of the pronoun are essentially different sounds a cat makes. (ONLY in the vocative case it is not a xenopronoun.)

Xenopronouns are generally considered exclusive to alterhumans, otherkin, alters, or headmates within a system who are non-human, due to their belief of impossibility to express in human language. It is possible that animals such as chimpanzees may use some sort of pronouns in their sign languages and random noises which is currently inconclusive.

Someone who uses xenopronouns would be called xenopronominal.
