Welcome to the Pronoun Wiki's starting page! This page lays down basic rules for multiple topics, and links to more details resources such as our wiki's policies.
Coining Sources[]
- Citations are required for every page on this wiki. See more details on our Citing Standards page.
- When adding creation times, exact dates are preferred over vague ones: For example, August 18, 2015 is better than August 2015 is better than 2015. However, approximate time frames are always preferred over a year only. It is preferable to write out the date using the name of the month to avoid possible confusion between users who may use DD/MM/YY and users who may use MM/DD/YY format.
- Always specify what platform the pronouns were coined on (Fandom, Discord, Tumblr, etc.).
- When creating pages for pronouns coined by yourself, you must credit your Fandom account or desired social media on the page, along with the date or approximate time frame you created them, and where it was coined, whether that was on Discord, Tumblr, the Forums, or Instagram.
- When linking to external sites in references, archive all links - especially tumblr links - with archive.md or the Wayback Machine.
Editing & Page Creation[]
- You can find editing details on our Editing Guide and Exampleself (Template) pages!
- New pages may not be added without citations (see Citing Standards).
- When adding new pronouns, quickly search the wiki to make sure the page does not exist.
Page Titles[]
- Nounself Pronouns:
- Pages for nounself pronouns must be titled "[noun]self" (Ex. Voidself).
- Pronouns based on the same noun must be on the same page. For example, vo/vos, vo/void, and voi/void would all be on the same page.
- Pronouns based on "related" but separate nouns should be separate pages. For example, doeself and stagself would be separate pages, despite both being deer-related. These sets can go in the Related Pronouns section at the bottom of the page.
- Emojiself Pronouns:
- All pages must be titled "[emoji]self" (Ex. 🥝self). Any variations of the pronoun must be on the same page.
- Non-Themed Pronouns:
- All pages must be titled with the nominative and accusative forms of the pronoun(s), in this format: "Nominative/Accusative". (Ex. They/Them)
- Combination pages should be titled the original form of the pronouns. For example, a page containing Shi/Hir and a variation such as Shi/Hyr would be titled "Shi/Hir", as those were the original form.
- When the original form of the pronouns cannot be determined, the page should be titled with the most complex form of all pronouns included on the page. For example, a page containing Shie/Shies and a simpler variation such as Shi/Shis should be titled "Shie/Shies".
- If the simpler form (ex. Shi/Shis) was NOT created as a variation of a more complex pronoun, it may have its own page.
Adding Pronoun Flags to Pages[]
- Basic Text Tutorial:
- Click the three dots next to the "ADD PAGE" button in the top right-hand corner of the Wiki.
- Select "Add New Image".
- Title your image appropriately and as simply as possible. Images that are titled as keysmashes, "screenshot-[DATE]", "image0", or similar are liable to deletion and re-upload or renaming.
- The simplest way to add a flag is to go into the Source Editor of a page, select a line where you would like your flag to appear, and input this code:
[[File:IMAGE_TITLE.PNG|thumb|Flag Description.]]
- Replace IMAGE_TITLE.PNG with the name of your file and its appropriate extension (JPEG, JPG or PNG), and click Save.
Adding Controversial or Exclusive Pronouns[]
- Controversial pronouns are typically understood to be pronouns based on reclaimed slurs or human rights movements, although that is not a hard rule.
- The general advice for this is only post reclaimed slur pronouns based on slurs that YOU can personally reclaim.
- In regards to Movement-based pronouns, this is more specific to BLM and Stop AAPI Hate, but obviously don't post pronouns related to that unless you are Black or AAPI.
- If posting pronouns that are exclusive to a certain identity like slur-based pronouns, an explanation as to why they are exclusive to that identity is mandatory. Pages may be subject to deletion if the exclusivity of the pronouns is not easily verifiable. An example of an explanation is as follows:
This Pronoun Set is generally considered exclusive to [Identity] individuals, due to [history of the word, controversy in the community, etc]
- An example of a filled-out explanation is as follows:
Auti/Autiself pronouns are generally considered exclusive to autistic individuals, due to being directly derived from the name of the neurodivergency itself.
