Description[]

Dehuman pronouns is an umbrella term for all pronouns that can be seen as dehumanizing, anti-human, etc. As well as pronouns that are used because one isn't human, doesn't want to be human and/or doesn't want to use humanizing terms.

Some examples of dehuman pronouns are:

While some people may certainly use pronouns like it/its and that/thats because they want to be seen and perceived as disconnected from humanity, that is not the case for all users. Many individuals who use these pronouns, use them like any other kinds of pronouns - because they make them feel comfortable, correct, and that the pronouns fit their experience. This is not because they view themselves or their humanity in any particular way, and they may not consider their use of these pronouns as part of the dehuman umbrella.

History[]

The term and flag were created by Tumblr user plurgai on March 26, 2021.[1] The flag was based off the antigender flag, which itself was based on the voidpunk flag, as dehuman pronouns can commonly correspond to being antigender and/or voidpunk.
