Aetherself are a gender-neutral neopronouns and nounself pronouns set inspired by the word "aether", which is the material that fills the region of the universe above the terrestrial sphere.[1] These pronouns can be used by anyone regardless of gender identity or gender expression.

The ae/aeth pronoun set was coined by an unknown user on an unknown date. The original ae/aeth flag was created by Fandom user LiterallyJustExisting on May 10, 2021.[citation needed] An alternative flag was also created by Tumblr user revenant-coining on January 6, 2023.[2]
